Our new LCD TV came today. The picture is gorgeous. The only downside right now is that we can’t take full advantage of the display, because we haven’t subscribed to any HD cable programming or purchased an upconverting DVD player just yet.

I had to do an extraordinary amount of research just to know which TV to buy. I know a lot of useless facts now, too. Who knew that BRAVIA was an acronym for "Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture?" Stupid Sony.

I have a 40 inch long item want to mail but I can not find a box to fit in. What can I do in order to mail it? Any place sell cardboard in this size?

They have mailing tubes if it’s narrow. If not check the post office they usually have sizes for things that can be mailed.

Hey I was wondering what’s the best for gaming because in the living room my dad has an LG 50 inch plasma 1080i HDTV and my ps3 has a split second lag between when I press a button on the controller and when it actually responds and a forty inch would fit my room perfectly.

Kindergarten children have heights that are approximately normally distributed about a mean of 39.6 inches and a standard deviation of 1.6 inches. If a random sample of 28 is taken, what is the probability that the sample of kindergarten children has a mean height of less than 40.3 inches?

i tried (40.39.6)/(1.6/√28) = 2.3155 and that is my z-score.. correct? so then the probability should be .4896 right? wells its not…. what am i doing wrong here?

For one thing, a simple look at the fact that 4.3 > 39.6 should let you know that the answer must be larger than 1/2 so you should notice that your answer is incorrect.

The value 40.3 inches is (40.3 – 39.6) / 1.6 = .7 / 1.6 = .4375 standard deviations from the mean.

The probability that the mean height is less than 40.3 inches is .6991

I am looking into purchasing either the new 40″ Sony Internet TV powered by Google or a 50″ Panasonic Plasma.

The Sony is an LED-LCD 1080p, 60hz (I am a little worried with the low refresh rate) as far as a TV goes, but the cool thing is the built in Google TV internet.

The Panasonic is a Plasma 1080p, 600hz, so I like the refresh rate and hear picture quality is typically better on Plasma’s and it’s larger, but doesn’t have the cool, new Google TV.

If you are going to be gaming I would pick the Plasma. Otherwise I would buy the LED/LCD with the cool internet capability. Just my unprofessional take on the situation. It really is all a matter of personal choice.

I find that the 240 Hz and 120 Hz makes movies look like live TV. Before I buy a new TV I want to make sure I can turn the hz setting off.

You can’t turn the “hertz off”, but you can turn off motion estimation (it will simply repeat the frames). Look for a feature such as “True Motion” or something similar – They usually have settings like (off, low, medium, high) and the term “motion”.
