You’ll find differing opinions on that here. There is the theoretical explanation that says, with 2 TVs otherwise equal in all respects, the human eye cannot tell the difference.

Then there are practical explanations, like my case. I have both types of sets, and fast action is in fact noticeably less blurry on the 120 Hz set. Given the purchase choice again, I’d most definitely ensure the new set had 120 Hz.

When comparing TVs, though, pay attention to the response time in addition to the refresh rate. Comparing 60 and 120 Hz performance loses meaning if the response times are not equal. With an LCD, I’d want a response time of 4 ms. or less.

Q&A: is it possible to make my Emerson 32″ 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV my computer screen using a vga to hdmi cable?

Question by : is it possible to make my Emerson 32″ 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV my computer screen using a vga to hdmi cable?

I have a gateway laptop 8510GZ and it has a vga connector on the back. My TV(LC320EMXF) does not have a vga connector but instead has a HDMI connecter and a S-Video connector. does that help?

Only if your computer provides digital output on the VGA jack (rare). Check the specs on your video card to see if it’s analog only, which is what I would expect. If it is, no passive adapter such as you’ve suggested will work. Except as noted, VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. The two are incompatible.

help on which lcd tv to buy and 60hz question?

Question by : help on which lcd tv to buy and 60hz question?
i currently have a Sharp LCD 720p and im thinkin about getting either an LG 42 inch or Samsung 40 inch 1080p on black friday from walmart. The LG is 42LD400, but i cannot find a real review or anything about it online so i think they made a mistake and its really the 42LD450. when i click on the ebay icon next to it, it shows up searching for the 450. and the samsung is the LN40C500. both have basically the same specs and im leaning towards the LG just because ive seen good reviews on them and my friend had a samsung and it was very pixely(i dont think that is a word) and other people have thought they are too. but idk if that was just those models or what. also people have said that 60hz arent good but my sharp is a 60hz and i dont see blur or anything. please help. here is the link to the black friday ad that im looking at

Both TVs are good quality. But the 120Hz, and above ratings that they give you on higher end model TVs are a gimmick. There are 60Hz TVs that will offer better image quality when compared to higher Hz TVs. Why you ask? Because there is no such thing as a 120Hz, or 240Hz TV sets. They get the 120Hz ratings from a digital processor that they install into the TV sets, that are designed to smooth out the jitteriness that can become apparent on LCD TV sets with high speed motion. All appliances are 60Hz because a 110/120 volt electrical outlet outputs a 60Hz frequency. Sometimes the 120/240Hz processor that they put into TV sets can actually degrade picture quality even. So your best bet is to look for the TV that offers the best image quality to you. If you want to see how a TV will perform in fast action, then the best measurement to look at, is the pixel response time. The lower the number, the better. A TV with a .8 second response time will react a bit slower then a TV with a .6 response time.

Question by Nicholas W: I recently purchased a Proscan – 40″ Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV – 40LC45S from BestBuy. Then problems.?
I recently purchased a Proscan – 40″ Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV – 40LC45S from BestBuy. Then problems come.

The picture and everything will be fine then all of the sudden the screen will go gray/black and the sound will be a very large static. None of the buttons on the remote or the TV itself will do anything. The only way to get it to stop is to unplug the power from the TV.

I do not know what to do. Please assist me.

Take it back. RCA TV’s haven’t been worth a tinker’s damn for the last 15 years. Almost any other brand is better than RCA today.

How can I reduce motion blur (I think) on my 60hz LCD TV?

Question by Dan: How can I reduce motion blur (I think) on my 60hz LCD TV?
I have a 60hz LCD TV and when I play PS3 (especially Call of Duty: MW2) my movement is all distorted. The player moves really slowly left and right but really quickly up and down. It IS NOT the sensitivty settings on the game because I’ve tried them all and the effect is still distorted.

I notice the huge difference in motion after playing on my projection sreen TV and then moving to my LCD.

Thank you for any help.

Sorry, it’s fairly common on LCD TV’s with refresh rates of 60Hz or less. Video games present real problems for those kinds of sets.
Best bet: get a used CRT set to play on. I just picked up a 32″ set for $ 50 and the picture looks great.

The TV does not have an S-video port and I am wondering what cable can be used to connect it to an ACER laptop about 2 years old.

According to the “connections” section of this web page, your TV has a PC input. All you need to connect your laptop to your TV is a standard VGA cable:

Buy a Samsung with 1080p, the 120hz is not as important as the 1080p if you get a 40″ or larger. If you can afford it, the 120hz is a nice addition. Under 40″, you can save a lot with a 720p and get a bigger screen.

If you can afford it, the link is for the Samsung B750, maybe the best tv for price in lcds.

Question by Timothy M: If I turn on my tv and it shows 1080p@60hz, does this mean my tv is a 60hz tv?
I bought a tv from best buy, the add said 120hz, but it does not say that on the box or in the setup, I have a HDMI cable that is good up to 240hz

Best answer:

Answer by Bill M
It could mean the TV is receiving a 60Hz signal. No broadcast signals have a higher frame rate than 60.
