What is the maximum resolution a 40 plus inches PLasma TV can reach ?

Question by liewguy: What is the maximum resolution a 40 plus inches PLasma TV can reach ?
For a Plasma TV , say with dimesions of 40 to 43 inches , what is the maximum resolution ( in pixels ) that it can reach ?

Is this maximum resolution limited by the inherent limits of Plasma technology ?

A case example : an X brand 32 inch LCD TV can reach resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels , whereas by comparison, a Plasma TV of 42 inches can only reach resolutions of 1024 x 768 pixels .

Why is this so ?

The only limit to panel size is the cost, theoretically you could make a panel any size you wanted, however the bigger and higher the resolution you want, the more difficult manufacture becomes.

LCDs and Plasmas are made up of millions of pixels, so as you increase the total number in a panel, the chances of there being one or more defective pixels increases, and a manufacturer can’t sell panels with lots of non working pixels.

If a manufacturer has to produce a 100 panels to get one 3000x2000px display the cost is going to be very high, so they’re not likely to bother until their yields improve.

For plasmas 1024x768px is common computer screen resolution, and there are enough pixels to display a 720p HD picture.

What’s the difference between plasma and LCD TVs these days?

Question by circusmort: What’s the difference between plasma and LCD TVs these days?
I’ve noticed a few more plasma TVs showing up for sale in stores – considerably cheaper than LCDs of equivalent size and features, so what’s the catch?

I have a pioneer plasma cost me $ 6000, I did allot of research and found that the high end TV,s are Plasma it’s like Mac and a PC , they both do very much the same thing but at the end of the day it must be justified. They both have there place in the market…..Not like Blu-ray and HDDVD where Blu-ray was the clear cut champion
.
LCD uses a bulb thats why its brighter but contrasts differently in some spots around the edges tend to be less bright
,
LCD technology has been around for ages , its OK for a computer but not a TV , Ghosting or MOTION BLUR, LCD can not and never will be able to handle FAST motion, thats why Gamers the avid ones are still using CRT rather then the lagging LCD, Also -True color representation , It has been proven the Plasma out Does LCD buy the a long shot, Last but not least MOVIE’s tend to be Blacker Darker scenes with faster Motion , PLASMA display the Darkest Black….And for me that was the deciding issue I don’t like the way LCD TV’S have that grey instead of Black

P.S – I have a top of the line LED TV too Just because they don’t make Plasmas in 32″ It looks good , But not as good as the plasma…..Look in the near future for something called OLED

Oh And LED is a LCD TV just a different light source, Instead of a bulb it uses LED’s Behind the crystals.

The average display life of a PLASMA in 60,000 hrs
Display life of a LCD 60,000 hrs That’s like 7 years none stop 24 hrs per day
Do you why they pick that number? because both technologies have not been around long enough to test them that long so they just put that number on it…..Your going to get 30 years out of a TV with 60,000 hrs I think by that time you’ll be glad it failed so you finally can go out and get another……Cheers

Why are 42″ plasma TVs usually 720p and similar LCD TVs are 1080p?

Question by Bare Bear: Why are 42″ plasma TVs usually 720p and similar LCD TVs are 1080p?
Why would you want a really nice TV that was only 720p?

Best answer:

Answer by Cornelius
Because you don’t always need 1080p!

People are told that 1080p is the best and they shouldn’t bother with anything else! This is a bunch of crap!!!

Depending on how far away you sit from your TV is what determines whether you need 1080p or 720p! 1080p is better for closer seating distances while 720p is better for farther seating distances! If you sit too far away from a 1080p TV, it will look the same as 720p. If you sit too close to a 720p TV, the image will look grainy!

Example; At my home i sit 10ft away from my TV. So either i need a 42-50″ 720p…which is quite affordable for me…or i get 55-80″ 1080p TV…which will be WAY out of my price range! See the link below for the chart i used.

The way my living room is set up, i simply can’t move closer to the TV. Otherwise, i would’ve gotten a 1080p TV.

Question by Michael C: What is the difference between LCDs and Plasma televisions?
Also, if you could provide me with pros and cons for both of them, that would be nice. Please include which one usually provides the best picture quality, which brands to buy, life expectancies of these televisions, average prices for a 40-46 inch set and where I could buy them for the least amount of money.

LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) as the name signifies has tiny liquid crystals to form an image when electric charge is passed through it which polorizes the crystals in the liquid to form different images.

On the other hand Plasma uses Gas(Xenon) as a medium for image creation. when the signals pass through the Gas tubes it heats the gas to create the images.

whats a good price on a used insignia plasma 40 inch tv?

Question by llllllllllllllllll: whats a good price on a used insignia plasma 40 inch tv?
I have a chance to buy it, at what price is it a bargain. thanks

You don’t give enough info, like the model and how old it is, how much it’s been used, and is it still under warranty. Generally, however, Insignia is considered a third tier, junk TV. It’s assembled from cheap Chinese parts and, WHEN you need service, in all probability you will not be able to get parts for it.
If it works well now, I’d probably pay $ 50 or so and take the chance, but no more.

Q&A: 7 Yr Old Sony AV Receiver, New 60 Inch LG Plasma TV?

Question by vg333: 7 Yr Old Sony AV Receiver, New 60 Inch LG Plasma TV?
I bought the LG 60 Inch Plasma over the weekend and hooked up the old receiver along with my XBOX & Wii consoles. I am finding that the volume from the AV system is jumping up and down very often even though I am not changing channels or moving between different video inputs. When it is down, you cannot hear it. I am wondering if it is because the AV system is not HD capable. I checked all the connections and they are okay. Any guidance or feedback is greatly appreciated.
I appreciate the responses. I have the video output from cablebox going to the tv and the audio output going to the av receiver. I will check the connections again and report back. Thanks again.

If the tv just has red/white rca jacks and you are hooking it up that way, the age of the amp shouldn’t be a problem.

I suspect a bad cable. When it’s loud, the copper is connecting. When it’s soft, the copper came loose. Jiggle all the cables and see if one is bad.
