Q&A: 7 Yr Old Sony AV Receiver, New 60 Inch LG Plasma TV?

Question by vg333: 7 Yr Old Sony AV Receiver, New 60 Inch LG Plasma TV?
I bought the LG 60 Inch Plasma over the weekend and hooked up the old receiver along with my XBOX & Wii consoles. I am finding that the volume from the AV system is jumping up and down very often even though I am not changing channels or moving between different video inputs. When it is down, you cannot hear it. I am wondering if it is because the AV system is not HD capable. I checked all the connections and they are okay. Any guidance or feedback is greatly appreciated.
I appreciate the responses. I have the video output from cablebox going to the tv and the audio output going to the av receiver. I will check the connections again and report back. Thanks again.

If the tv just has red/white rca jacks and you are hooking it up that way, the age of the amp shouldn’t be a problem.

I suspect a bad cable. When it’s loud, the copper is connecting. When it’s soft, the copper came loose. Jiggle all the cables and see if one is bad.

Why Sony..?? You are paying for the name. I have experienced many brands of HDTV’s in my business, and there are many that are as good or BETTER than Sony…(Especially Samsung.!) Look around, ask questions…check reviews.

What surround sound speaker system do I need for a Sony V4000 40″ LCD TV?

Question by kaliharry: What surround sound speaker system do I need for a Sony V4000 40″ LCD TV?
What ones might be compatible?
I have Sony Blue Ray – can I add speakers to this? Don’t want a cinema system with another DVD player!

Best answer:

Answer by “isitme”
You can’t just add speakers, you need an all-in-one home cinema system which includes DVD player OR preferably ,an AV reciever and speaker set up connected to a DVD or Blu-Ray system.

Any system will be compatible with your TV. Have a look at those on the link as a guide……

http://www.richersounds.com/information.php?cda=static&cst=homecinemasystems

No you need an AV receiver and speakers, the Blu-Ray is just a source, the sound needs an amplifier.

The link I provided gave complete systems, if you look further on the site you will find receivers and speakers available separately without a DVD player. Have a look at the Onkyo range and Q acoustics speaker packages.

How many hz does video games use on a 1080p tv because im planning on getting a 46in sony bravia 1080p on 60hz?

Question by Snooperman: How many hz does video games use on a 1080p tv because im planning on getting a 46in sony bravia 1080p on 60hz?
i wiil be playing video games and watching blue ray movies in this tv and i want to get a good picture and is there a huge difference in 60hz and 120 hz

Best answer:

Answer by kg7or
You should expect to see noticeable fast motion blur on a 46 inch 60 Hz LCD. With a screen size that large, 120 Hz is pretty much necessary, especially for gaming.

Another spec that’s important is the TV’s response time. You want not more than 4 ms. Anything more also contributes to a motion blur problem.

Bottom line: I wouldn’t consider anything less than 120 Hz and 4 ms. for a 46 inch LCD used for gaming or almost anything else, i.e. any program with fast action like sports.

Answer by bbt91945
Panasonic is a more reliable brand than the Sony. I had one of the first Sony 34″ CRT HDTV in the market and paid $ 6,400 for it and it only lasted 2 years, same goes for the DVD players from Sony model 7000 and 7700. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. You will notice that there are more Panasonic Plasma tv being recommend than from any manufacturer weather it is a an LCD or LED. Hope this will help you out.
